Byetta Has Been Linked to Serious Side Effects, Including Kidney Failure
Doctors have prescribed Byetta (exenatide) to treat Type 2 diabetes patients. Reports have linked Byetta to serious side effects, including the onset of acute pancreatitis (a sudden inflammation of the pancrease) and necrotizing and hemorrhagic pancreatitis, as well as kidney failure.
If you or a loved one has taken Byetta and suffered any serious side effects, you can schedule a free consultation with an attorney at the Law Offices of Jeff Martin.
When you are prescribed any type of medication, it is important for you to understand health risks of consuming any potentially dangerous drugs and know your legal rights. Attorney Jeff Martin can help.
FDA Issues Alerts About Byetta
In October 2007, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) informed healthcare providers that the agency had received reports of at least 30 cases of acute pancreatitis associated with the use of Byetta. In August, 2008, the FDA issued a second alert informing healthcare providers of six reported cases of hemorrhagic and necrotizing pancreatitis that were linked to at least two deaths.
Byetta was introduced to the market in April 2005. Between its introduction and October 2008, the FDA received 78 reports of kidney function problems in patients using Byetta. The FDA noted that some cases occurred in patients with pre-existing kidney disease or in patients with one or more risk factors for developing kidney problems.
Between April 2005 and September 2008, nearly 7 million prescriptions for Byetta were dispensed.
The FDA reportedly worked with the manufacturer of Byetta, Amylin Pharmaceuticals, Inc., to update the drug's label with stronger warnings.
If you have taken any drug with serious side effects, an attorney at the Law Offices of Jeff Martin can talk to you about product liability or any other legal issues related to your injury.
Don't Delay — The Statute of Limitations May Jeopardize Your Byetta Lawsuit
If you or a loved one has suffered a Byetta injury, contact the Law Offices of Jeff Martin. Do not delay seeking legal assistance. The statute of limitations restricts the amount of time you have to file a lawsuit. Your legal rights may be in jeopardy if you delay. You may be entitled to compensation, but a dangerous drugs lawsuit must be filed before the statute of limitations expires. It's important to take action sooner than later while witnesses' memories are fresh and evidence remains intact.
